Help Make Democracy Possible! The 2008 Presidential Election is around the corner, less than two months away, and we need hundreds of volunteers to help make democracy possible for the next generation of voters.

Kids Voting Tampa Bay (KVTB) is a non-partisan organization that promotes civic responsibility and voter participation through educating Tampa Bay’s youth about the significance of being an educated and engaged citizen. By combining civic learning in the classroom with an authentic voting experience that reflects the adult process we are teaching the importance of voting to sustain our representative democracy. We are partnered with area Supervisors of Elections to host an authentic voting experience every election cycle. The success of the practice election depends on our volunteers; your participation will make a difference in the community.

KVTB is a national affiliate of Kids Voting USA. We were introduced to the Tampa area for the 2004 Presidential Election in Pasco County, and had over 15,000 students cast their ballot. Then in conjunction with the 2006 Gubernatorial Election, KVTB expanded to cover Citrus, Hernando, Hillsborough, Pasco and Pinellas counties. We were excited as the ballots rolled in on Election night 2006 where over 150,000 students vote! This year however, our sights are set to reach an even higher number yet and we need your help!

Election Information: We will need volunteers to staff our “super precincts”, or precincts designated by Supervisors of Elections offices as KV voting sites, on Election Day Tuesday, November 4th, 2008 and at different voting locations for the two Saturday’s leading up to the Election (Oct. 25th and Nov. 1st). On Election Day, precincts will be open from 2pm – 7pm. Early voting precincts (designated on the form by EV) will be open the full eight hours, and shifts will be 4 hours long.

Volunteers Positions Needed!

Precinct Captains: In charge of Adopted Precinct, must attend one hour volunteer training session, responsible for coordinating volunteers at their precinct open to close, set-up/take-down of their precinct, and for delivering precinct supplies (AND BALLOTS) to county Headquarters at the closing of the polls.

Rovers: A Rover will be in charge of roaming between designated KV Super Precincts and County Headquarters throughout Election Day replenishing supplies and collecting ballots. Requires reliable transportation.

Headquarter Tabulators: Tabulators will be stationed at each county's HQ. They will pick up dropped off election supplies from Rovers, and drivers delivering them after the closing of the polls on Election Day. Tabulators will run dropped off ballots through the tabulation machines

Early Voting Poll Workers: Poll workers are needed to work the two Saturday’s leading up to the Election. Poll volunteers will work 4-hour shifts. An entire early voting location may also be adopted; the same responsibilities will apply as Election Day adoptions.

It Simple…

1. Decide how you would like to help

2. Choose a KV precinct or headquarters to adopt/work (precincts assigned on first come basis)

3. Complete the necessary forms

4. Attend a mandatory 1-hour volunteer training session (Precinct captains)

5. Staff your precinct with volunteers
